Language and Literacy
The Northern Ireland Curriculum forms the basis for language teaching. All pupils are taught grammar and punctuation, comprehension and word building skills. Reading is monitored closely and progress is supported with skills and regular practice. Confidence and fluency in speaking is encouraged through a range of opportunities to address different audiences in talks, drama, role play, etc. Writing skills emerge from the language acquired and the child’s own imagination to express creativity and produce factual accounts.
